Well, I've decided to just jump in with both feet with this challenge idea, and hope for the best!

Copied from the userinfo page:

Express Yourself Challenge
Every two weeks, a new theme or style will be posted. Members who wish to participate in the challenge will then create as many icons as they'd like that express or reflect what the theme means to them. Participants are then invited to share the icons they've made with the rest of the members!

The point of these challenges will be to get our members more actively involved
in making icons and sharing them. This also gives us a chance to see the different effects, styles and ideas people use to create their icons. We may see something that we really liked and that we'd like to know how to do, or we may notice something about an icon the creator didn't, that might make a difference in the icon's presentation.

For challenge related posts, please list the challenge in the subject line and note the theme in the tags. That way people looking back can find them more easily. ^_^

I just want this to be a comfortable environment where members can share their expressions of creativity as icons. If this doesn't work out, it doesn't work out...but it is worth a try!

That out of the way, I'll announce the first icon challenge for pixelexpression!

With November just around the corner, and inspired by ciri's icons, the first icon challenge is NaNoWriMo*! The closing date for this challenge will be Thursday, October 20th.

Let's see those icons!

*For those unfamiliar with NaNoWriMo, it stands for National Novel Writing Month, which takes place every November. For more details, leave a comment, or check out NaNoWriMo's official website.

Made from the wacked-out UK trailer. Still working on the rest of the cast, but I thought I'd post these.

Sorry for the double post to the community, but..uh..it's hard to avoid when you have low activity comms. ;)

The main reason I'm posting is that I had an idea of adding a sort of bi-weekly challenge to this community, in the hopes of getting a little more activity going. I've asked a couple of members, and the idea seems to be meeting a fair reception, so I thought I'd bring it up on the actual community.

The basic concept of the challenge is that a theme or style will be posted once every two weeks. Normally, I'd go with one week, but I think two might be better to give everyone more time. :) Participants will then make an icon/icons (not sure yet) to fit the theme, and submit them to the "submission" post.

After the two weeks are up, I'll take all the icons and repost them into another post. In a normal icontest, this would be where we all vote on entries, but rather than do that, I'm going to list the icon submissions with their creator. Members are then invited to discuss the icons, such as who they think best expressed the theme, or made best use of the style chosen. They might ask about how so-and-so achieved a certain effect, etc. Comments and constructive criticism will be welcomed. Flaming and insults will NOT be tolerated.

That's the basic gist of the challenge, at least. I would like to have at least a few more members before I start with the challenges...so if you could please, please, please, tell your friends and any icon makers you know about this community, I'd be happy! ^_^

Thoughts, comments, suggestions and questions welcomed. :)

Considering I did make the community. ^^;

Hi! For those who don't know me, I'm julseykit (duh?), and I am an iconaholic. I am also an obsessive fangirl. You have been warned. ;)

Unfortunately, I don't have too many icons to share right now. Four of the ones I would are entries for icontests, so I'll wait. :) I do have 3 or 4 I can share, as well as a link to my icon journal.

Most of my icons are anime based...so if you aren't anime fans, I apologize in advance. :P I will try and branch out a little more, I guess. >.>

Okay, so...icons.

And that's all the icons for now. :) I'll probably repost these, in addition to this week's icontest entries sometime early next week to my icon journal, which can be found at julsicons. :)

Now, other people post! :P

I'll bite and post some.

I've been making a ton of World of Warcraft-related icons and bases over at wow_icons, you can see the collection here:

Have fun! I do take requests and exchanges, should anyone be interested (which I doubt).

PS: They're only horribly compressed on the thumbnails, the icons themselves are gifs and doing fine. ^^;

Hey there, and welcome! I created pixelexpression because I have several friends how like to make icons, and I thought it might be nice if we could have a place to share them with each other.

The rules for pixelexpression are simple and straightforward. This community is for icons, no matter the genre or subject, as long as they meet LJ standards. You must be a member to post, and everyone is welcome!

Make yourselves at home, and start sharing your icons!
